Here are you ::: Michael Waters

Michael Waters
Michael studied Jazz Piano at the Conservatory in Utrecht, with a minor in composing, arranging and studio technique.

After graduation he worked as a pianist and keyboard player for various jazz bands and cover bands until he started producing music. His first releases were jazzdance productions for Club 802 Records, jazzdance label owned by UK jazzdance DJ Graham B.

Followed by various productions for the then legendary R&B studio in Amsterdam 'Cruise Control', among others the first 'No Sweat' cd. This lead to building his own recording facility on the Damrak in Amsterdam.
From this base Michael composed, wrote and produced for and with (inter)national artists such as: Billy Preston, Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx, Sarah Dash, Jennifer Holiday, Lisa Simone (Nina Simone’s daughter), Morris ‘Mo’ Pleasure, Leah McCrae, Brown Hill.

He has worked in studios from Amsterdam to New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Pennsylvania and Virginia. If you’d ask Michael about some of the highlights in his career he would certainly mention:
  • Receiving a hand written letter from Rosa Parks to thank him for the tribute song he wrote fort his American civil rights activist.
  • Based upon that, to hear this same song come to live through the talented voices of Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash (Labelle).
  • Working with Nina Simone's daughter and writing some beautiful gems for her album
  • To be asked to do the production of the song 'Black Is The Color' with horn arrangements by Bob Belden, a version even Oprah’s O-Magazine had to mention in the album review.
  • Composing and writing a song for the departed Michael Jackson, which was performed by the original 'This Is It Tour' band members on their Asia tour, with MD Mo Pleasure, and sung by Tony Terry and Vann Johnson.
  • Receiving an email from Billy Preston saying he would be honored to record Hammond organ on his song 'Through The Storm'. The song was recorded by gospel legend Jennifer Holiday and debutante Najiyah.
  • Writing the song 'Daddy’s Caddy' with Billy Preston on the Rhodes.
